Healthy Schools Week

It has been a fantastic start to the week.  Everyone in school has had the opprtunity to make smoothies using a smoothie bike, powered by pedal power!  The children selected and chopped their own fruit.  They then placed it in the smoothie maker and hopped on to the bike and pedaled as fast as they could.  They all had the chance to taste their smoothies.  Yum, yum!!

Tuesday the 19th September.

Another active day!! All Key Stage 1 began the day learning a dance from the ‘Wake Up, Shake Up programme’. Key Stage 1 and year 3 then had a hula hooping workshop. The children had the opportunity to try different skills and hula hoop with their friends.

Chester FC has also been in today working with Year 5 and Year 1. They were teaching them new games.

‘I really enjoyed working with Chester Football club. We played 2 brilliant games. One was called Chicken or Hero? The second game was called Austin Powers. I would definitely want to do it again. It was great fun’. Evie Year 5.

‘We worked as a team throughout. Mrs Salter (our class teacher) played the Austin Powers game with us. She was in the middle of the circle having to speak with a Scottish accent with a ball under her jumper!’ Sam year 5.

This afternoon years 2 and 6 had dance workshops with Ruth Spencer. They imagined putting paint on different parts of their body to paint a very special canvas.

Wednesday 20th September

Today Reception had a hand washing workshop.  They watched a film all about germs and why they need to wash their hands.  They also learned a song all about hand washing.  It was great fun, seeing the pretend germs under the special light.

Years 4 and 5 had a nutrition workshop with Dan looking at nutrition and a balanced diet.  Dan was so pleased with the childrens knowledge and enthusism.

In the afternoon the Year 6 children planned a variety of games that they will be teaching to the whole school on Friday.  They have had to think about the different level of skills that will be present, what skills they want them to learn and how to explain the games to the children.

Thursday 21st September

Chester City football club coaches visited again to teach Year 2 and 5 some games.  A great time was had by all!

Friday 22nd September

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 performed a routine from 'Wake Up, Shake Up' perfectly in assembly, they had been learning the rountine all week.  It's been a great start to each day!

All the classes worked witn Year 6 on their Games Roadshow.  The Year 6 children facilitated and supervised the children.  They were organised, enthusiastic and exended the games where necessary.  The atmosphere was amazing!!
